I never understand what a word 'firewall' mean when it comes to a computer. What does a Windows Firewall do? What are its own limitations?

The Windows Firewall works like any firewall by blocking certain applications from access certain ports on the computer. The average user doesn't need to concern themselves too much with this but the advanced or corporate professional can control (by allowing or disallowing) users from accessing certain functions.
