This has been a problem of many people and I'm one of them. I have bought a brand new Windows 7 OS complete with box. After entering the product key on installation I receive the message "The product key is not valid. Please retype the product key". I already emailed Microsoft but I'm still waiting for my product key. Any suggestions on what I should do would be greatly appreciated.

The main reason a product key will not be valid is:

    - You mistyped the Windows 7 product key

    - Your product key doesn't match the version of Windows 7 on your computer

    - You used an upgrade key but you performed a clean installation of Windows 7. In order to use the upgrade key you have to upgrade from a previous version of Windows (XP or Vista) that was installed on your system.

Those are the main reasons for your problem.
