I have no sound coming from the speakers for my computer. They are external speakers so I plugged them into my sister's computer to test them. They worked fine. Where do I start looking for the problem?

I HAVE NO SOUND. THE CABLE WAS INTERUPTED WHILE I WAS AT WORK. I CAME HOME TO FIND A CHECKERBOARD SCREEN. NO RESPONSE TO KEYBOARD OR MOUSE. REBOOTED AND ALL WORKS EXCEPT THE SOUND. ANYTHING I CAN CHECK BEFORE CALLING A TECH?

I would try uninstalling the audio drivers and re-installing the most updated drivers for your audio card.
