I bought a computer from a friend. When I checked its system information, I found out that its lacking memory. I removed and properly inserted back the 2 512MB SD Rams but when I check the system memory again, its still the same 512 MB instead of 1GB. Could you please help?

Maybe one of the sticks of RAM has failed. You can check in the BIOS if it sees both sticks of RAM. If it doesn't then either the stick of RAM has failed or the slot on the motherboard has failed. Give it a try.
