I have a new Seagate 320GB external hard drive. My problem is that the computer doesn't detect any hard drives after connecting the external hard drive through USB. What could have gone wrong?

I would try the external hard drive on a different computer. If it still doesn't work then it sounds like your external case has failed or your hard drive has failed. The only way to test it is to open the external case and directly connect the drive to your computer. If the external drive is still under warranty then just send it back right away so you won't have to deal with opening the case.
