I'm afraid my computer has caught a virus. I'm thinking that if I restore it back to the original version it might be ok to use. Is this the time to do a restore? Or is it a lost cause?

My HP monitor always blacks out every after it returns from screen saver. I switch off the monitor and switch it on again and the monitor will work for 2 seconds and blacks out again. I need to switch off the monitor for about 5 minutes so when I switch it on again, it won't black out anymore. What could be the problem here?
