How can I safely removed my DIP chip? I was told between DIP and PLCC there are different ways to make sure you are not breaking anything in the process as well to avoid any injury to yourself.

When is the right time to reset the BIOS instead of just changing it out? I'm having problems getting my computer to start. Someone told me it's probably a BIOS problem.

There is one computer at the office that has a problem with BIOS. When we start the computer, we are given the chance to press F1 and F2. With F1, we go to BIOS setup but locks itself after about 5 seconds. If we hit the F2 key, the screen will remain black but the cursor is still visible on the top left corner.

How do we fix this problem?

If you have a desktop computer you can pop out the BIOS battery and leave it out for over 30 minutes and then put the battery back in. This should erase the BIOS password.

If you have a laptop then you can find a free CMOS password recovery tool like CmosPwd.

Depending on the BIOS and motherboard manufacturer, updating the BIOS is very simple. Usually all you have to do is download a simple file from the manufacturer website and then follow the simple steps for updating the BIOS. After the program has finished just restart the computer and you're done. Make sure you get the right BIOS image or you'll be in trouble.

I am thinking of flashing (updating) my BIOS. From what I understood, if I update it before it completes, there's a possibility that it can get damaged so I think it is somewhat risky. What do I need to do before updating my BIOS?
