In this tutorial I will show you how to share files and a printer using Windows Vista. The greatest benefit of have multiple computers is the ability to share files and printers because it improves efficiency and keeps cost down. With the rise of cloud computing file sharing will eventually change but for now if multiple people want to have access to the same files then the easiest way to accomplish this task is to setup file sharing on one computer or server and then everybody will have access to the files. Let’s begin this tutorial and I’ll show you how easy it is to share files and printers.

In this tutorial I will show you how to add a printer in Windows Vista. Although we live in the digital age the use of printers has increased continuously year over year. The method of adding a printer to a computer has been simplified with the use of the manufacturer installation CD, but sometimes a person doesn’t want to install all the printer software that’s included on the CD. For people who just want to use the basic printer functions they can manually install a printer very easily. Also, most people today have home networks with multiple computers and one printer so adding a printer on every networked computer will be a convenient feature for everybody in the house. Let us show you how to add a printer in Windows Vista with this simple tutorial.

<!--

Just choose the standard generic network card and press Next. If your printer a locally attached then you won’t see this step.

9. Now your laptop or desktop is try to determine the drivers for the model of your printer. When the Install the Printer Driver screen appears you can try find the model of your printer from the supplied list and press Next. If you can’t find your printer model then insert the printer CD that came with your printer in the DVD drive and then press the Have Disk button. Now you will have to find the drivers for Windows Vista and install them.

10. Type a Printer Name screen will now ask you to choose a name for your printer and chose whether you want this printer to be the default printer or not. Once you have chosen the desired name and checked the default printer option click the Next button.

11. Once the printer has been installed on your computer you will receive a message saying you’ve have successfully added the printer. Now you can print a test page if you want and then click the Finish button.

Tips:

In this tutorial I will show you how to connect to a wireless network using Windows Vista. The benefits of connecting to the internet through a wireless router are many, but the main reason WiFi is so popular is the mobility factor. It’s very convenient to work from any location that has wireless internet because it means you can go from the office, to a coffee shop, to a library and then home while working on your laptop. Using a wireless network is also nice for desktop computers as you don’t have to worry about pulling network cables through walls just to get the internet in your room. Although a wireless internet is not as fast as the wired kind it is still a must have to most people today. Follow this easy tutorial on how to connect to a wireless router and you’ll be mobile in no time.

<!--
google_ad_client = "pub-1753917005750420";

Steps:

1. The first step is to buy a wireless router and setup the wireless SSID (or network name) and encryption.

2. Find the Network icon in your taskbar and right-click on the Network icon.

3. Once the network options pop-up appears, select the Connect to a Network option.

4. Now the Connect to a Network screen will appear and you will see a list of all the available network in your area. Find your network name from the list and click on it, then press the Connect button.

5. If your wireless network is unsecured then you will be able to connect automatically. If your wireless network is secured (like it should be) then you will asked to type in the security key or passphrase to connect to the network. Enter your security key and then click the Connect button.

6. Once the computer is connected to the wireless router Windows Vista will ask you if you want to Save This Network and Connect Automatically. If this is a home network or a network that you frequently will connect to then make sure to check both boxes. Now click the Close button.

7. Open your favorite internet browsers and start enjoying the internet.

Tips:

- It is not recommended to setup your laptop to connect to several wireless networks automatically because sometimes this will cause a conflict.

- A wireless signal can be affected by any type of electromagnetic waves within the same frequency so don’t be surprised if your signal strength changes without notice.

In this tutorial I will show you how to disable the hibernate feature in Windows Vista. A lot of people like to save energy by putting their desktop or laptop into hibernate mode but what they don’t realize is that the power savings is minimal and the potential damage to the operating system is great. The biggest problem with hibernate is that if your computer is hibernating and there is a power bump to your computer and it shuts down or restarts then it could corrupt Windows Vista and make it unusable. Adding to the problem is that most new computers have hibernate enabled by default. I would recommend always disabling hibernate and using sleep mode instead. Even better would be to just turn off your computer when your done for the day.

2. Now find the Screensaver link and click on it.

3. Once the screensaver screen appears click the Change Power Settings link under the Power Management section.

4. Under the Power Options screens find what power options you are using and then click the Change Plan Settings link.

5. Next step is to click on the Change Advanced Power Settings option and then the Power Options screen will pop-up.

6. Find the Sleep option and expand the plus sign to reveal more options like the Hibernate option.

7. Expand the Hibernate option and then click on the blue minutes next to the on Battery and Plugged In option.

8. Once you click on the minutes a text box will appear. Type in “0″ for both battery and plugged in mode and then click the Hibernate option above.

9. Now click the Apply button and then the OK button and close all the other windows. Now your done.

Tips:

- Computers have become so much more energy efficient today that putting your computer to hibernate mode will not save you any money on your energy bill.

In this tutorial I will show you how to setup an email account in Windows Mail.

In this tutorial I will show you how to update the operating system in Windows Vista. Doing Windows updates are one of the most important tasks a computer user should do to keep their system running smoothly. Not only does Microsoft release security updates for Vista but also releases service packs that improve the stability and functionality of Vista. A lot of times Windows will automatically update itself if this feature is setup, but it’s important to manually check the for updates as automatic updates don’t always work. I always recommend turning on automatic updates for Vista and manually checking for service pack or other updates every month. Let’s get started.

<!--

Steps:

1. Locate the Taskbar and click on the Start button.

2. Now click All Programs and find the Windows Update program and click it.

3. Once the Windows Update screen appears click the Check For Updates link on the left column and let Windows search for any new updates.

4. If there are any updates available then press the Install button. Depending on the amount and size of the updates this could take a short time or a very long time, but be prepared to restart your computer after the updates complete installing

5. Keep repeating steps 1 through 4 until there are no more available updates.

Tips:

- If you have to install either Service Pack (SP) 1 or SP2 in Vista then you can download the installer file from Microsoft’s website and you won’t have to individually install the previous updates.

In this tutorial I will show you how to search for a file using the Search function in Windows Vista. Sometimes we forget where we saved a file and sometimes we are looking for specific system files and we don’t the location, either way, we should be familiar using the Search function in Vista. One of the biggest complaint I heard from people using Vista is, “Where is the search function?”. It used to be so easy to find and use in Windows XP, but Vista is another story. Once a person gets use to the Vista Search feature they quickly realize that it’s far superior to the old way of searching for a file. I will show you how to do a basic search and the more advanced search so you’ll never lose a file again.

<!--
google_ad_client = "pub-1753917005750420";

Steps:

1. Go to the Taskbar and click the Start button.

2. At the bottom of the Start Menu you will see the Vista Search box. Start your search by typing in the name of the file you are looking for and then press Enter.

3. If Windows says that it can’t find the file you are looking for then press the Search Everywhere button.

4. In the Search screen find the Advanced Search button and click it.

5. Now you have many more options to work with. To start your search again type in the file name of your file in the Name field.

6. After that click the drop down menu where it says Indexed Location and choose the location you want Vista to search in. If you are not sure of the location then choose the Everywhere option and press the Search button.

7. Once Vista is done searching it display all the files that meet your search criteria. Just double click the file and it will open. It’s that simple.

Tips:

- To speed up the Windows Vista search function you can manually force Vista to index all the files on your hard drive.
