In this tutorial I will show you how to disable the laptop touchpad in Windows 7. The touchpad, or laptop mouse, is a great tool when you need to need to work on the laptop and there isn’t much space available, but a lot of laptop users like to use an external mouse because it’s more efficient and comfortable to use for long periods of time. One of the problems of the touchpad is that when a person uses the keyboard their palm may accidentitally touch the touchpad and cause typing errors and other unwanted effects. To disable the touchpad is easy and varies from laptop to laptop but this tutorial will show you a method that will work on every laptop. Let’s begin this simple step by step tutorial.

In this tutorial I will show you how to create a new user, or profile, in Windows 7. There are a lot of families and businesses that cannot afford more then one computer. So when multiple people have to use that one computer things can get messing. These other people will usually download software, change the settings or infect the computer with some virus or spyware and as a result you will be affected. The best solution to this problem is to create a separate account for each person so they can customize their account the way they want and you can even control the amount access a user has to the computer. Creating a user is easy with Windows 7 and the benefits are endless. Let’s get started.

Steps:

1. To get started, click the Start button on the taskbar.

2. Now click on the Control Panel button on the start menu.

3. Next step is to click the Add or Remove user Account link under the User Accounts and Family section.

4. Once the Manage Accounts screen appears you will click on the Create a New Account link near the bottom.

5. After pressing the link you will asked to enter a name for the new user. Select the appropriate name and then choose the type of user you want to create. You can choose between a Standard or Administrator user. The difference between the users is the amount of access the user will have to make changes to the operating system. An Administrator will have full access, while a Standard user will not be able to make system changes. Once you have selected the type of user press the Create Account button.

6. Now that the new account is created you can log off the current user by click the Start button and pressing the arrow button right next to the Shutdown and then choose Log Off.

7. You will now see the newly created profile and you can click on the user profile and you’re done.

Tips:

- If you are setting up multiple users on one computer it is highly recommended to create a password for each user.

- If you there are any unused accounts it is wise to delete that account to free up hard drive space.

In this tutorial I will show you how to backup the files on your computer using Windows 7. Backing up your files should be the most important thing a user should do after buying a computer. That’s why it’s so important to back up your all your files so when the worst happens you’ll be able to recover with minimal down time. The good news is that Windows 7 has a great backup tool that is easy to use and very effective for most users. Let’s go.

<script type="text/javascript"

4. The next step in the backup process is to select the destination, or location, of the backup. Basically, it’s asking where do you want to save your backup files. So select the destination drive where you want to backup your files and then press the Next button.

A Homegroup is a new feature in Windows 7 that allows people to quickly, securely and easily share folder, files and printers with other Windows 7 computers. What makes Homegroup different from the traditional file and printer sharing is how easy it is to setup. It only takes a few clicks to setup and it’s pretty secure because all computers will have to know the password in order to be able to share everything in the Library. For most people using a Homegroup will be helpful tool but for the advanced computer users using the workgroup and sharing method will give them more flexibility and settings. Good job to Microsoft for listening to it’s users and giving them a great tool to share files and printers.

In this tutorial I will show you how to disable a program from starting up in Windows 7. Most computers from the big manufacturers include extra software and tools that really slow down the computer because all these different programs are setup to start when Windows starts. Of course the more programs running in the background means more CPU and RAM usage and that is why those extra programs slow down your computer. There are also other reasons for disabling a program startup like if you need to troubleshoot a computer error or problem and you want eliminate what program is causing the problem or if you have some spyware on your system and you want to remove it from starting up. Disabling a program from starting up is a really handy trick to know so let’s get started.

Steps:

1. Click on the Start button and in the search box type in “msconfig” and then press Enter.

2. Now the system configuration windows will appear. Select the Startup tab and then you will see a list of all the programs that are automatically set to startup when Windows 7 starts up.

3. Un-check all the desired programs that you don’t want to startup or press the Disable All button to disable all the programs. When you’re done selecting the programs press the Apply button and then OK.

4. Once you hit the OK button you will be asked to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. Press Restart and let the computer restart.

5. When the computer reboots and you see your desktop a System Configuration message will appear stating that there have been some programs blocked from startup. Just check the box Don’t Show This Message or Start System Configuration When Windows Starts and press OK. Now you’re done.

Tips:

- Disabling a program from startup doesn’t remove the program from the computer. It only stops it from automatically starting up with Windows. To fully remove the program you must go to the Add/Remove Programs window and remove the software there.

In this Windows XP tutorial I will show you how to change to ownership and permissions of a drive, folder or file. Sometimes we need to get access to files and we find out that we don’t permission to view the files. This is a common problem when a person needs to get access to some important system files or if a person needs to get access to another drive or user files. In reality, this is not a problem but a security feature that Windows has implemented so only the desired people can see the files. A common reason to change the drive ownership and permissions is when doing a data transfer from an old hard drive to a new computer. Without making any changes the person will not have access to all their files from the old drive. Let’s get started and I’ll show you how easy it is to preform this task.

Steps:

1. The first step is to make sure you have access to the security options, so open up My Computer by clicking on the Start button and then click on the My Computer icon.

2. Now click on Tools from the top menu and then select Folder Options.

3. Once the folder options window appears click on the View tab and under the Advanced Settings section scroll down to the bottom and un-check the Use Simple File Sharing option. Click Apply and then OK.

The above method will only work in Windows XP Professional. If you are using Windows XP Home then you will have restart your computer and enter Safe Mode by pressing F8 before the Windows XP logo appears. Once you press F8, then select Safe Mode With Networking and then a warming screen will appear. Click Yes on the warming screen and now you will have access to the security tab.

4. Find the drive or folder you want to get access to and right-click it and then choose Properties.

5. Under the properties window select the Security tab. Now go to the bottom and click the Advanced button.

6. When the Advanced window appears click the Owner tab and then select the Administrators Group (the one with two heads) and check the Replace Owner on Subcontainers and Objects. Once you’ve done that click Apply.

7. Next step is to go to the Permissions tab and under the Permission Entries section again select the Administrators and check the Replace Permission Entries on All Child Objects With Entries Shown Here That Apply to Child Objects box. Now click the Apply button. A warning message will pop up asking for you to confirm this step, click Yes.

8. Now click OK on all the open windows and open the desired folder. You will now have access to the folder or drive that you want.

Tips:

- Remember to restore the folder view options in Windows XP Pro after you’ve changed the permissions and ownership so you won’t have any file sharing issues.

In this Windows XP tutorial I will show you how to recover from a corrupt Windows registry. The Windows registry is a database of all the configurations and settings of any Windows operating system (OS) and sometimes it gets corrupt or damaged. There are a few ways a registry can become corrupted. One way is if a user accidentally deletes a registry key that is necessary for the OS to function. Another way is if your computer shuts down unexpectedly during an update or other important event. Sometimes when you uninstall a program and the uninstaller messes up then your registry could be damaged. Regardless of the method I will show you how to use the backup registry that is created by the system restore function in Windows to replace the corrupted registry. Let’s get started.

Steps:

1. Shut down the computer and remove the hard drive from the computer with the corrupt registry.

2. Now attach or slave the hard drive to a working computer.

3. Click on the My Computer icon to see all the attached drive on your system. Find the drive of the attached hard drive and click on it.

4. Next step is to change to folder view so you can see the hidden registry files. To change the view click on Tools and then choose Folder Options from the menu.

5. Click on the View tab and under the Advanced Settings section click the Show Hidden Files and Folders box, then un-check the Hide Protected Operating System Files option. When you do this you will get a warning box asking you to confirm your selection; just click Yes. After that press the Apply button and then hit OK.

6. Now make sure you’re at the attached drive and double click the Windows folder, then the System32 folder, then the Config folder. You will now see the five important registry files called Default, SAM, Security, Software and System. These are the files that will need to be replaced. Leave this windows open.

7. Open another window by clicking on the Start button and then My Computer. Click on the attached hard drive and then click on the System Volume Information folder.

If you get an Access Denied message when trying to open the System Volume Information folder the follow these steps. Click on Tools -> Folder Options -> View Tab -> Advanced Settings -> Un-check Use Simple File Sharing option. Now click Apply and then OK. Now right-click on the System Volume Information icon and those Properties. Click on the Security tab and then the Advanced button at the bottom. Then click on the Owner tab and highlight the Administrators group and check the Replace Owner on Subcontainers and Objects box. Now click Apply.

8. Click on the _Restore folder and now choose a RPXXX folder that is a week to three weeks old. Next click on the Repository folder and now you will see the five backup registry files created by Windows.

9. Now go back to the attached hard drive Config folder and create a new folder called Old. Cut and paste the five corrupted registries into the Old folder.

10. Next step is to copy and paste the five backup registry files from the Repository folder into the Config folder of the attached drive. Once the files have been copied you must rename them as follows: Default, SAM, Security, Software and System.

11. Once the files have been added and renamed you can detach the hard drive from your computer and place it in the original system and start the computer. Now your problem is fixed.

Tips:

- You can also fix a bad registry using the Windows recovery console if you don’t another computer available.

- Once you’ve recovered the Windows registry it is a good idea to completed all the Windows updates immediately.

In this Windows XP tutorial I will show you how to delete all the system restore files. By default Windows will create a backup of the system registry every day. You can manually create a restore point if you plan on doing some radical system changes or installing some new software but usually the automatic schedule will work just fine. The type of files that Windows saves in the system restore is system files, registry keys and installed programs. The main reason to delete your system restore files is if your computer is infected with a virus or spyware because those malicious programs almost always infect the system files. After removing the infected files it’s a good practice empty all the restore point so you system will not reinfected. I’ll now show you the process in this simple tutorial.

3. Now click the System Restore tab and check off the Turn Off System Restore On All Drives box. Then click the Apply button.

4. You will get a warning message asking you to confirm this procedure; just click the Yes button. Now you see that the status will change from Monitoring to Turned Off.

5. After you’ve deleted all the restore point you can enable System Restore again by un-checking the Turn Off System Restore box and click Apply. Now press the OK button and you’re done.

Tips:

- Make sure to remember to enable system restore after deleting all the restore points so you can recover your system if a failure occurs.
